Pear-Gouda Grilled Cheese with Mixed Greens and Walnut Salad recipe


This is a yummy grilled cheese sandwich with melted gouda and sweet pear slices. It comes with a fresh salad of mixed greens, walnuts, and a tangy balsamic dressing. It's a warm, cheesy sandwich with a cool, crunchy salad.


4 cups mixed greens
1 x 8 oz block gouda cheese
2 ripe pears
1/4 cup walnut pieces
8 slices sourdough bread
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
1 tablespoon honey mustard
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt


Wash and dry the mixed greens and set aside.
Slice the gouda cheese into thin pieces.
Core the pears and cut them into thin slices.
Roughly chop the walnut pieces.
Spread honey mustard on one side of each bread slice.
Layer half of the bread slices with pear slices and gouda cheese, then season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Top with the remaining bread slices, mustard-side in.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
Once the butter has melted, add the sandwiches to the skillet. Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes.
Flip the sandwiches, adding another tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Cook until the second side is golden and the cheese has melted, another 3 to 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a pinch of salt and pepper to create the dressing.
Add the mixed greens and chopped walnuts to the bowl with the dressing and toss to coat evenly.
Cut the grilled cheese sandwiches in half and serve with the mixed greens and walnut salad.
