This is a yummy dish with meatballs made from turkey and herbs. They are baked in a tasty tomato sauce and topped with cheese. It's a warm meal for dinner and not too hard to make!

Ingredients

2 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
600 ml tomato sauce
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
30 g grated Pecorino Romano cheese
200 g white mushrooms, finely chopped
500 g ground turkey
70 g panko breadcrumbs
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
100 g shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tbsp olive oil

Method

1
Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
2
In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cook for another minute.
3
In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, sautéed onion and garlic mixture, chopped basil, Pecorino Romano cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
4
Form the mixture into 16 meatballs and place them in a baking dish.
5
In a separate saucepan, heat the remaining olive oil over medium heat. Add the tomato sauce and oregano, and simmer for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
6
Pour the tomato sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
7
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
8
Serve hot, garnished with additional basil if desired.
