This dish is a crispy tofu stir fry with a spicy, sweet glaze. It's made with tofu, veggies, and a yummy sauce. You cook the tofu until it's crunchy, then mix it with the sauce and veggies. It's good with rice or in lettuce wraps!

Ingredients

450 g Extra-Firm Tofu
60 g Cornstarch
1 Medium Red Onion
2 Bell Peppers
1 Tbsp Hoisin Sauce
3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
1 Tbsp Maple Syrup
2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tbsp Szechuan Peppercorns
4 Cloves Garlic
3 cm Fresh Ginger
1 Green Chilli
2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
4 Limes
1/2 Tsp Sea Salt
1 Tbsp Water

Method

1
Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes and toss them with the cornstarch and 1/2 tsp salt until well coated.
2
Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the tofu cubes until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
3
In a small bowl, make the glaze by mixing hoisin sauce, soy sauce, maple syrup, and apple cider vinegar.
4
Crush the Szechuan peppercorns using a mortar and pestle. Mince the garlic, ginger, and green chilli.
5
Slice the red onion and bell peppers into thin strips.
6
In the same pan used for tofu, sauté the onion, bell peppers, crushed peppercorns, garlic, ginger, and chilli for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
7
Pour the glaze into the pan with the veggies and bring to a simmer.
8
Add the crispy tofu back into the pan and toss to coat evenly with the glaze.
9
For a simple lime dressing, mix the juice of 4 limes with 1 tbsp water and a pinch of sea salt.
10
Serve the crispy tofu stir fry with the lime dressing on the side, perfect for drizzling over the top or dipping. Enjoy with rice or wrapped in lettuce leaves.
