Chili Garlic Tofu with Scallions recipe

This is a yummy tofu dish with a spicy kick. It has soft tofu with a tasty sauce made from garlic, ginger, and chili. You put the sauce on the tofu and eat it with rice or noodles.

Ingredients

4 spring onions, thinly sliced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
20 g ginger, minced
1 red chili, deseeded and finely chopped
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
800 g firm tofu, drained and cut into cubes
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water

Method

In a small bowl, mix the light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and water. Set aside.

In another bowl, create a slurry by mixing cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water.

Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, ginger, and chopped red chili. Cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.

Pour the soy sauce mixture into the pan and bring to a simmer. Add the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Stir until the sauce is glossy and slightly thickened.

Add the tofu cubes to the pan and gently toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for about 5 minutes until the tofu is heated through.

Garnish with the sliced spring onions and serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
