Caramelized Onion and Balsamic Tarte Tatin recipe

Stashcook

This is a yummy, upside-down tart with sweet onions and a tangy balsamic glaze. The crust is flaky and golden. It's a fancy dish that looks like a big, round pie. You cook onions until they're sweet, put pastry on top, and bake it!

Ingredients

1 sheet (320 g) of ready-rolled puff pastry
5 large yellow onions, sliced
2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp fresh thyme leaves
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 Tbsp olive oil

Method

1
Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
2
In a 10-inch ovenproof skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
3
Add the sliced onions, salt, and pepper, and cook for about 15 minutes until the onions are soft and golden.
4
Sprinkle the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar over the onions, stir well, and cook for another 5 minutes until the onions are caramelized.
5
While the onions are cooking, unroll the puff pastry and cut into a circle slightly larger than the skillet.
6
Place the pastry over the caramelized onions in the skillet, tucking the edges down around the onions.
7
Put the skillet in the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
8
Remove the skillet from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate.
9
Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over the tart before serving.
