Ingredients

1/2 lb lean ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
12 oz spaghetti pasta
1 x (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1/2 medium yellow onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
1 large egg
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup water

Method

1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the spaghetti.
2
In a bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan, panko bread crumbs, egg, half the chopped basil, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and oregano. Mix well.
3
Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
4
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove meatballs and set aside.
5
In the same pan, add another 1 tbsp olive oil, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
6
Stir in crushed tomatoes, remaining salt, remaining black pepper, red pepper flakes, and water. Bring to a simmer.
7
Return meatballs to the sauce, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
8
While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti in the boiling water until al dente, about 10 minutes. Drain.
9
Serve the spaghetti with meatballs and sauce on top. Garnish with remaining basil and extra Parmesan cheese.
