Apple Turnovers recipe

Stashcook

These are sweet treats with a flaky outside and a warm, spiced apple filling. You fold pastry over yummy apples and bake until golden. They're great with ice cream!

Ingredients

50 g unsalted butter
4 tbsp light brown soft sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground allspice
5 medium-sized dessert apples, peeled and chopped
2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
6 tbsp icing sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp water

Method

1
Preheat the oven to 200C (180C fan, gas mark 6).
2
In a pan, melt 25 g of butter with the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Add the chopped apples and cook for 5-10 minutes until tender. Let the mixture cool.
3
Cut each sheet of puff pastry into 4 rectangles. Brush the edges with water.
4
Divide the cooled apple mixture among the rectangles, placing it on one half. Fold the pastry over the filling and seal the edges with a fork.
5
Melt the remaining 25 g of butter and brush over the turnovers. Place them in the fridge for 30 minutes.
6
Mix the icing sugar with vanilla extract and water to make a thin glaze.
7
Make 3 small cuts on top of each turnover and brush with half of the glaze.
8
Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden. Let them cool for 5 minutes, then brush with the remaining glaze.
9
Serve warm with custard or ice cream.
